Alphittä, Jan 29
Rafael Schacher is a wine newcomer. He started his business only a decade ago and nowadays produces wine on 1.7 hectare. Nevertheless he already produces a variety of red and white wines in the mild climate of Hochdorf, just north of Luzern. Rafael came to visit us in the Alphittä, located at the Nätschen, halfway up the Gütsch express. While outside it was snowing heavily, we started the degustation with a light and fruity Riesling-Silvaner. Do you know these days, when it gets really hot in the afternoon, but then, when the sun gets low the air cools a little, you sit outside and enjoy the slight breeze that washes away the heat of the day. That’s the situation, when you would like to enjoy this Riesling-Silvaner. Afterwards, for dinner, Rafael also has a perfect wine. The Johanniter has a stronger taste, very little acidity and a nice body. A wine, that accompanies fish or pasta in a light sauce in a perfect way.
As a red wine Rafael offers two grapes. The Pinot noir has 13 % vol. and a slight tobacco note. It fully fills your nose and is a very dry wine but isn’t astringent at all. The Gamaret on the other hand comes with more tannins that made the group divide. The Cuvée combines the Pinot and the Gamaret and therefore united the group again. It combines the taste of the Pinot with the body of the Gamaret and therefore was the favorite of many.
